The author emphasizes the importance of leaders behaving ethically and setting a positive example for their followers. He argues that ethical leadership involves demonstrating integrity, fairness, responsibility, and concern for the well-being of others.
One of the key points Yukl (2013) emphasizes is that ethical leaders consider the long-term consequences of their decisions and actions. The readings during this course have also been enlightening, with several favorites standing out. “The Leadership Challenge” by Kouzes and Posner (2017) offers practical advice and insights on how leaders can navigate challenges and inspire others. Their five practices of exemplary leadership: model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart, provided me with a framework to guide my own leadership development.
Additionally, “Primal Leadership” by Goleman, Boyatzis, and McKee (2013) explores the emotional intelligence of leaders and its impact on organizational outcomes. This book heightened my awareness of the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership, as it influences how leaders handle their own emotions and those of their followers. Understanding and managing emotions effectively can contribute to a more positive and productive work environment.
