– Female Gametogenesis: Oogenesis is the production of mature ova or eggs in the ovaries. It involves mitotic divisions, followed by a prolonged meiotic process, resulting in one functional egg and polar bodies.

– Definition: Fertilization is the fusion of the sperm and egg to form a single cell, called the zygote, which marks the beginning of human development.
– Process of Fertilization: Fertilization takes place in the fallopian tubes. After ejaculation, sperm undergo capacitation, allowing them to penetrate the protective layers of the cumulus cells and the zona pellucida. Once a single sperm successfully enters the oocyte, a series of events occur, including the activation of the egg and the formation of the zygote.
